Alkaline water is different and drinking it can transform how your body feels and recovers post-exercise. Here’s why:

  • Alkaline water has a higher pH level than regular water. This is a really important factor when you consider that during exercise, your body is producing lactic acid – a byproduct of anaerobic respiration. Intense workouts can result in lactic acid build-up – does a burning sensation in your muscles sound familiar? That’s lactic acid.   • This 2016 clinical study looked at the effects of drinking alkaline water following a relatively gentle exercise session, compared with regular water. The test subjects who drank alkaline water had lower blood viscosity than the test subjects who drank standard water, with the ‘alkaline group’ seeing a drop in blood viscosity of 6.3%, compared with 3.36% in the ‘regular water’ group. Blood viscosity is linked to hydration levels, with lower blood viscosity denoting higher levels of hydration. In simple terms, the test subjects who drank alkaline water post-exercise were better hydrated than those who were given regular water.
