Are you constantly going on and off a diet to try and shed those stubborn pounds – only to leave you frustrated every time? You are not alone!

More than 68% of the American population is overweight or obese – and yo-yo dieting has something to do with it.

What is Yo-Yo Dieting?

Yo-Yo dieting, also called Weight Cycling, is the repeated losing and gaining of body weight that leads to the unexpected effect, even in just months, of weight gain – in particular, belly fat.  This, in fact, is more damaging to health than simply being consistently overweight.

Yo-yo dieting has another unfortunate side effect – you gain more weight than you originally lost. This constant weight cycling also has a hormonal effect that promotes more fat storage in your abdominal area – adding belly fat due to a sharp reduction in food intake (aka crash dieting that doesn’t shed weight). When you go back to eating normally (and you will), your metabolism will have slowed down – resulting in belly fat.

A study done in 2015 found that when most people use a short-term diet to lose weight, they will regain 30–65% of the weight that they lose within 1 year and almost 100% of the weight that they lose within 5 years!

Muscle loss is another unfortunate result of yo-yo dieting.  Adequate muscle mass is a key player in weight reduction since muscle is metabolically active, leading to a boost in metabolism.

Yo-yo dieting over time will result in muscle loss that will not only pack on the pounds but affect your health as well.  To avoid muscle loss – exercise and eat quality proteins such as whole eggs, poultry, meat or fish.

The health effects of yo-yo dieting are numerous and serious – leading to frustration and increases in your risk for heart disease, high blood pressure, fatty liver disease and Type 2 diabetes.

Healthy Diet…Happy Life!

Instead of implementing quick diets to lose weight or counting calories, focus on a healthy diet at every meal and snack that includes:

  • Lean protein – such as eggs, fish (salmon or tuna), and ground turkey
  • Healthy carbs – such as quinoa, sweet potatoes, and whole-grain foods
  • Healthy fats – such as avocado, nuts, and olive oil

Water is another key to weight loss success because drinking water boosts metabolism, promotes metabolism-boosting muscle and stops hunger and cravings (especially sugar cravings!).

My go-to water of choice is hydrogen-rich alkaline water from my Tyent water ionizer. I have been drinking their alkaline water for a few years now because their award-winning water ionizers are the best at creating healthy, delicious alkaline water that’s rich in antioxidants that your body needs.

Tyent offers the top water ionizer machine for weight loss because every glass of their alkaline water contains molecular hydrogen (H2) – the most powerful antioxidant in the world that directly penetrates and enriches the cells in your body.

Drinking hydrogen water from a Tyent water ionizer can lead to significant increases in weight loss, increases in energy, and proper hydration. These health benefits are hard to come by from most water ionizers on the market today.

But don’t take it from me! Give the friendly water experts over at Tyent a call today at to learn more about how the benefits of alkaline water can help you achieve your weight loss goals!

Or if you prefer to do a bit of your own research – then download this FREE water ionizer cheat sheet!

Remember that not all calories are equal!

There is a vast difference in the way the body metabolizes a 100-calorie candy bar vs. 100 calories of broccoli. The phytonutrients in the broccoli saturate the fat cell and reverse the inflammation within the cell to release stored fat – the way a healthy fat cell does as opposed to an unhealthy fat cell that stores fat and holds on to it.

I recommend that you drink half your body weight in ounces of Tyent alkaline water each day, consistently – every day for optimal effect.

The bottom line to avoid the wrath of yo-yo dieting?  Opt for making healthy changes that you’ll be able to maintain…in other words, adopt an overall healthy lifestyle instead of a restrictive diet that you won’t be able to maintain!

    1. Hi, Hayden. Our hydrogen-rich alkaline water helps keep you hydrated, nourished, and refreshed, but as the article says, it’s best to pair it with a healthy, long-term lifestyle to get the results you want.
