Can Drinking Water Help Me Lose Weight?

Absolutely!

Many people do not realize that water consumption can help regulate appetite, stop overeating AND promote weight loss.

So, I’m here to set the record straight!

The following tips will help layout the reasons to drink-up for weight loss success:

Drink Water Before You Eat

Drinking water before you eat can help reduce appetite and calorie intake.

Research shows that simply drinking 8 ounces of water before a meal promotes weight loss.

One 12-week study showed that participants who drank 17 ounces of water before each meal lost 4.4 pounds more than those who did not.

Research also indicates that drinking water may speed up your metabolism for every 17 ounces you consume.

Drink the Right Kind of Water

All water is not created equal!

A recent study estimates more than 100,000 cancer cases could stem from a toxic cocktail of chemical pollutants in tap water alone.

Therefore – it is crucial to drink water that will keep you healthy AND safe.

Drinking water is a key component to optimizing your health – but there is a special type of water that you can drink that is also a powerful antioxidant:

Hydrogen water, which is ionized alkaline water that contains molecular hydrogen, is powerful because the tiny hydrogen molecules can easily permeate the cell membrane into the cell.

Drink Cold Water

This metabolism boost occurs because your body must work harder to warm the water up to maintain its core temperature, therefore, burning more calories and helping you to lose weight.

Drink Enough Water

Without water, the body cannot properly metabolize stored fat or carbohydrates.

The process of metabolizing fat is called lipolysis. The first step of this process is hydrolysis, which occurs when water molecules interact with triglycerides (fats) to create glycerol and fatty acids.

Additionally, when we are just 2-3% dehydrated, cellular function slows down and so does our metabolism. If chronic, this can lead not just to fatigue, joint pain, lethargy and headaches…but to weight gain as well.

So, by drinking enough water – your increased water intake can lead to increased fat loss.

To ensure you get enough water daily: drink a minimum of half your body weight in ounces daily.

  • For example, if you weigh 120 lbs., drink 60 ounces at a minimum each day.
  • Increase water consumption depending upon exercise and weather conditions.

How Much Water Should I Drink A Day?

Staying hydrated is key for healthy cellular function, affecting everything from your skin to how much energy you have.

When you drink plenty of healthy, clean alkaline water from a water ionizer, you’ll get to enjoy health benefits such as:

However, many people have NO IDEA how much water they are drinking because they are not keeping track and still following the longstanding advice to drink 8 glasses a day.

The new rule is that our daily water intake should be based on our weight and not any old number. Drink half your body weight in ounces daily.

  • For example, if you weigh 120 lbs. drink 60 ounces of water each day.

Remember, this is the minimum amount of water that you need to drink daily. This doesn’t take the following things into account:

  • Hot, humid weather
  • How active you are
  • What medications might be dehydrating you

Water Stops Hunger

Many people are unaware that they are mildly dehydrated and turn to food because mild dehydration stimulates appetite and thirst are often disguised as hunger.

Common symptoms of hunger include:

  • Empty feeling in your stomach
  • Stomach gurgling or rumbling
  • Dizziness, faintness or light-headedness
  • Headaches
  • Irritability
  • Lack of concentration
  • Nausea

Research shows that simply drinking one glass of water halts the feeling of hunger and sugar cravings while promoting weight loss.

In fact – drinking just 17 ounces of water was shown in studies to increase metabolism by 24-30% for up to 1.5 hours.

To figure out if that feeling is hunger or thirst – drink water and then wait 5 minutes.
