Bottled water is in the news (again), this time involving a ban on bans. That’s right…National Parks will no longer be able to prohibit the sale of bottled water on their grounds. But why should you care where your water comes from?
My Bottled Water Addiction
I used to drink bottled water all the time. At least I did, right up until all those studies started coming out about how plastic bottles cause cancer Plus, I wasn’t comfortable with my thousands of bottles a year clogging up the local landfill.
But the biggest dealbreaker for me was just how darn expensive bottled water costs—sometimes up to 1000 times more than tap water.
The World Wildlife Fund thought that was a little strange, so back in 2001 they conducted a study to find out what exactly the deal was with bottled water; why it costs so much, where the bottles go after you’re done with them, and perhaps most importantly whether bottled water is actually healthier than tap water.
The Lesser of Two Evils?
About one day’s worth of drinking water, right?
The study found that while most people chose bottled water because of supposed health benefits, the reality is that…
There is virtually no difference between bottled and tap water.
In fact, many brands of bottled water are sourced from municipal water, AKA tap water.
So let’s see what bottled water actually has going for it…
Better than tap water? Nope, especially when it is tap water!
