Is Alkaline, Ionized Water Healthy or Safe for Children and Pets?

Is alkaline water suitable for the youngest family members? What about cats and dogs? You know that alkaline water is the best drink for you, but is alkaline, ionized water healthy or safe for children and pets?

The simple answer is yes, alkaline water is fantastic for kids and your fur babies too! However, let’s break that down and look at exactly why alkaline water is a great option for the whole family.

Is Alkaline Ionized Water Healthy or Safe for Children and Pets

Is Alkaline Water Healthy & Safe for Children? Yes!

Alkaline water is safe for toddlers and beyond (babies 12 months and under should only be offered purified water).

Alkaline water from a Tyent Water Ionizer is filtered for safety and a delicious taste that kids love. If your young ones must be persuaded to drink enough water, then alkaline ionized water can be a revelation for them!

A pH level between 8.5 and 9.0 is perfect for younger kids and older children, while teens can enjoy water with a pH between 9.5 and 9.7. It’s preferable to start kids with one or two glasses of alkaline water every day during the first week or so and build from there.

When it comes to sports, nothing hydrates better than Tyent alkaline ionized water! It’s healthy, safe and delicious, and helps children stay hydrated, even during summer sports!

For both adults and kids, we recommend not drinking alkaline water for 30 minutes before and after meals or taking medication. This is because your stomach needs to maintain its usual acidity to process food and medication effectively. Drinking too much alkaline water during mealtimes can affect that acidic balance, which can impact the bioavailability of nutrients, and slow down how your body processes the food.

Is Alkaline Ionized Water Healthy & Safe for Pets? Yes!

Your beloved cat or dog can also enjoy alkaline ionized water! Drinking water from a Tyent ionizer machine means that you have peace of mind, knowing that your loved ones are hydrating with water that’s free of deadly contaminants – and that includes your much-loved pets!

In the same way as with people, animals also benefit from drinking alkaline, ionized Tyent water. The hydrogen molecules help to maintain energy levels, and the essential minerals and antioxidants in every glass help to support good pet health.

As with children, start your cat or dog off with alkaline ionized water that has a pH of around 9.0, and stay around this pH point as it’s perfectly suited to your pet’s needs. Similar to the rest of the family, if your pet is taking medication, then don’t give them alkaline water for an hour before or after taking it, to avoid any delay in the medication being absorbed.

PURIFIED WATER

  • Mix babies’ formula with purified water only.
  • Do not give children ionized alkaline water 30 minutes before or 30 minutes after meals.  Alkaline water may interfere with the body’s ability to absorb the nutrients in food.  This is a good practice for adults to follow as well.  Purified water is perfect for mealtime.
  • Do not allow children to drink alkaline water 30 minutes before or 30 minutes after taking medication.  To avoid jeopardizing the effectiveness of medications, children should take them with purified water.  Again, the same advice applies to adults.

Now let’s focus on how much water children should drink daily.

BABIES

Babies up to six months of age do not need to drink water because they get enough fluid from breastfeeding or formula.  Remember to mix formula with neutral, purified water.  From 6 to 12 months, when your baby starts to eat solid foods, you may consider offering your baby two ounces of purified water in a cup.  Choose water over juice to begin to form good life habits.  If you do give your baby juice, dilute it with some purified water.

TODDLERS

Busy, active toddlers should typically drink about 44 fluid ounces of water per day.  At this point, you can give your child water with a pH between 8.5 and 9.0.  Introduce alkaline water to your child slowly by only offering one to two cups per day and gradually moving up.  If you offer your child juice, dilute it with alkaline water.

SCHOOL-AGE CHILDREN

By now, your child should be accustomed to alkaline water.  Children this age should drink anywhere from 33 to 66 fluid ounces of water per day, depending on their size, weight and activity level.  Give your child a GoodLife bottle to take to school so he or she can sip on water throughout the day.  Make sure your child has water at any sporting activities.  It is still a good idea to stick with a pH level between 8.5 and 9.0.

TEENAGERS

Kids this age should drink up to 2 to 3 liters of water day.  Now that they are older, the pH of the water can be between 9.5 and 9.7.  Again, the amount of water needed depends on your teenager’s size and activity level.  Make sure your teenager takes water to school and has it for after-school activities as well.

Teaching your children the importance of drinking water—and especially ionized alkaline water—is a big step in steering them in the right direction toward developing a healthy lifestyle that will last well into their adulthood.
