Already added a remineralization filter to your RO system? It doesn't fix this. Here's why ↓
The Dirty Secret About Reverse Osmosis Water
RO removes contaminants, and that's true.
But it also removes the minerals and elements your body needs to function, hydrate, and heal. A report published by the World Health Organization links low-mineral water to increased cardiovascular risk, and found that cooking with it can leach up to 60% of the magnesium and calcium out of your food.1

The question isn't “Is the water clean?”
The question is, “Is the water actually helping your body?”
The Remin Cartridge Is the RO Industry Admitting Its Own Flaw, Then Patching It With a Rock
If stripped water weren't a problem, remineralization filters wouldn't exist. But here's what the filter companies don't mention: remineralization was invented to stop aggressive RO water from corroding pipes and equipment, not to feed your body. And the cartridge on your system is exactly what it sounds like: crushed limestone, slowly dissolving into your water. No dosing mechanism. No consistency. No guarantee.
Standard remin media is calcite: crushed calcium carbonate, the same compound as limestone and chalk. You paid to strip your water, and the “fix” is dissolving rock back into it.
The cartridge holds about one cup of water. The first glass gets mineral contact; everything after flows through too fast to pick up much of anything. Independent reviews found cartridges deliver a fraction of natural mineral-water levels.
The mineral most strongly tied to the cardiovascular findings in the WHO report is magnesium. The standard remin cartridge adds none, just a trickle of calcium, and calls the job done.
Remin media often depletes before the replacement date on the box, with no indicator and no change in taste. You're back to drinking straight RO water and don't know it.
“Possibly none of the commonly used ways of re-mineralization could be considered optimum, since the water does not contain all of its beneficial components.”
World Health Organization, Nutrients in Drinking Water, 2005 [1]Even the $5,000 “premium” remin systems can't answer three questions:
- 1 How many mg/L of magnesium are in my glass?
- 2 What's the pH, and does it stay there?
- 3 What's the ORP reading?
If the answer is a vibe instead of a number, you already know: a rock dissolving in a tube can't promise a number, because the dose changes with every glass. Some luxury RO brands even recommend stirring sea salt and mineral tablets into your water afterward: a $5,000 machine that asks you to finish the job yourself. There's a smarter order of operations: remove what shouldn't be in your water, and never remove what should.
Could Reverse Osmosis Be Wrong for Your Family?
RO may create more problems than you realize.
RO removes essential minerals like calcium and magnesium your body needs, and a remin cartridge puts back only an inconsistent trickle.
RO water is often too acidic (pH as low as 5.0).
Contaminants can build up inside the membrane when the system sits idle.
RO systems waste water, require frequent filters, and come with ongoing maintenance costs.
What Should Healthy Water Actually Do?
A truly healthy water filter should do more than just remove.
Lead, PFAS, nitrates, microplastics and more.
Retain or optimize essential minerals your body can absorb.
Water your cells can use efficiently.
Hydrogen-rich water for cellular health and vitality.
