Patriotic Red, White and Blue Antioxidants for the Fourth of July!

Antioxidants are substances that can counteract the effects of oxidation. Antioxidants can play a role in preventing the development of chronic diseases such as cancer, heart disease and arthritis. Antioxidants block the process of oxidation by neutralizing free radicals. Here is an easy and patriotic way to get your antioxidants this Fourth of July!

Our favorite red, white and blue foods containing large amounts of antioxidants are strawberries, blueberries and white tea.

Strawberries and Blueberries

These fruits contain the following antioxidants:

  • Anthocyanins: Anthocyanins are the pigments that give the berries their rich color. Anthocyanins are antioxidants and may offer anti-inflammatory, anti-viral and anti-cancer benefits in addition to enhancing heart health and protecting against obesity.
  • Flavonols: Flavonols are a group of antioxidants that may have anti-viral, anti-tumor and anti-inflammatory effects on the human body.
  • Phenolic acids: Phenolic acids are antioxidants that can reduce free radical damage, keep your body safe from harmful diseases and protect against inflammation.

White Tea

White tea contains high levels of catechins, which can reduce atherosclerotic plaques, can decrease the severity of stroke and can help prevent cancer. White tea has more antioxidants (EGCG) than any other tea. EGCG has substantial free radical scavenging activity and may protect cells from DNA damage caused by reactive oxygen species. Brew your white tea with Alkaline 3 Tyent Water for an added antioxidant boost! You don’t need to boil the water because the smaller cluster size of Tyent Water is able to penetrate the molecules of the tea to allow for easy brewing.

Red, White and Blue Antioxidant Tea

1 cup of strawberries

1/2 cup of blueberries

2 white tea bags

6 cups Level 3 alkaline Tyent Water

2 tsp agave nectar for sweetness, if desired

 

Step 1.

Soak your strawberries and blueberries in Turbo alkaline water for a few minutes to remove any oil-based pesticides and insecticides.

Step 2.

While your fruit is soaking, fill up your pitcher with 6 cups of alkaline 3 Tyent Water.

Step 3.

Step back and take a moment to look at all those gorgeous bubbles of health floating around in your water.  Go on, they’re awesome!

Step 4.

Add your favorite white tea bags to your alkaline 3 Tyent Water.  You’ll notice your tea start to brew almost immediately.  There’s no need to boil water when brewing tea with Tyent Water, which is especially nice in the summer time!

Step 5.

Chop up your strawberries and add them, along with your blueberries, to your pitcher of white tea.  You can add some agave nectar for sweetness if desired, but it’s really not necessary.
