Reverse osmosis (RO) is a method of producing clean, drinkable water from seawater, brackish water or any kind of water that contains impurities that untreated, renders it unsuitable for safe drinking.
It is produced by pumping water through a semi-permeable membrane, which removes undesirable elements such as salt, effluent, bacteria and particle matter. Excellent, right? Well, yes and no. Let’s take a closer look.
- What’s in RO Water?
Not a lot. Almost everything gets removed. And that includes the good stuff. In order to make sure the toxic and undrinkable constituents don’t make it into the drinking water, the minerals that your body needs also get filtered out.  Short term that’s not a problem, which is why RO water is at it’s best in an emergency, but it’s not sustainable for long term health because the water is essentially “dead.”
- Ionized Water is Extra Hydrating
You hydrate faster drinking ionized alkaline water than regular water, and your body needs less of it to be at optimum hydration as a result. Great news if you’re an athlete, enjoy sports or simply understand the importance of being hydrated!
- Don’t Feed the (Reverse Osmosis) Water!
Um. Hungry water? Okay, maybe not hungry, but RO water is on the hunt for minerals. When you drink RO water, once inside your body it will leach valuable minerals from your bones and teeth, seeking to stabilize itself. Once it has completed its scavenger hunt, both it, and the minerals are eliminated from your body in the form of urine.
When you drink alkaline water, it’s the opposite. Instead of losing vital minerals, you’re benefiting from glass after glass of antioxidant, hydrogen-rich goodness. Plus minerals from freshly ionized water are more readily absorbed by your body!
- Food for Thought
We all use water to cook with, and I’m convinced that risotto tastes better when made with an alkaline water stock. Pasta seems to cook faster as well, according to my pappardelle-loving husband. But RO water isn’t such a great choice in the kitchen. If you cook in demineralized water, essential minerals such as magnesium and calcium present in your food are reduced to a level between 60% and 86%.
- What Have The Romans Done For Us?
“…but apart from better sanitation and medicine and education and irrigation and public health and roads and a freshwater system and baths and public order… what have the Romans done for us?”
~Â Monty Python, Life of Brian
A look at the long, long list of the benefits of owning a Tyent Ionizer, and it was hard not to think of the classic Monty Python sketch above.
And so, in the style of an eccentric British comedy institution from many moons ago…Apart from producing fresh, delicious alkaline water, with all of the attendant benefits, including antioxidants, hydrogen-packed hydration and energy boosting goodness, what has your Tyent Ionizer ever done for you?
Of course it does much more as well. But when it comes to a comparison with a Reverse Osmosis system, there’s no contest really. An RO machine does not deliver any of this, and what it does produce is not something that we should be consuming on a regular basis.
Over To You!
Have you tried cooking with alkaline water? What results did you get? We’d love to hear about your kitchen-based successes!
