I‚Äôll throw my cards on the table here. I absolutely love vegetables. The growing, the cooking and the eating of vegetables are all fine things to do, and although I‚Äôm not vegetarian, the majority of our family meals tend to be meat free. So far, so smug. Feel free to slap me with a slice of grilled eggplant, I can take it.

Here are some ideas for boosting your veg intake;
- If you‚Äôre making a ragu, chilli or curry type dish, then there‚Äôs no limit to the veggies than you can cram in! Ragu always benefits from a ‚Äėproper‚Äô sofrito of alkaline-rich onions, celery, and carrots; and eggplant and potato are wonderful simmered in a curry-spiced sauce.
- Zap half a cucumber with a few mint leaves and a slice of ginger through a juicer and add to chilled apple juice with a dash of alkaline water for a real morning wake up call!
- Toss pumpkin cubes with olive oil, honey and thyme. Roast until tender before tossing with cooked pasta, and dressing with parmesan cheese, toasted pine nuts and a little lemon juice.
- Add butter beans and lentils instead of meat for protein-rich and alkaline boosting texture.
