Alkaline Water And Other Clever Ways to Quash Hunger!

The other day, I came home from a meeting that had taken place over lunchtime, but erm…without the actual lunch part having taken place. ‘Sorry, our caterer has let us down. You’ll be okay won’t you?’ my host asked. Keen to crack on with the business at hand, I smiled and nodded, and wondered if I could eat bits of paper from my notebook without being sussed.

"No lunch? That’s just fine. Absolutely no problem at all."
“No lunch? That’s just fine. Absolutely no problem at all.”

Alkaline Water To The Rescue!

Thankfully, as usual, I had my GoodLife bottle with me and so I was able to slake both my thirst and the worst of my hunger with alkaline water.

Drinking water is a wonderful trick to fool your stomach into thinking there’s something more substantial there, while of course, doing wonders for your hydration. But what else can help to quash hunger between meals?

The Tooth About Hunger

Ah, the dentist’s favorite. Cleaning your teeth between meals is brilliant for suppressing hunger pangs. I confess I have little idea how the science bit works. Maybe it’s because your body is conditioned to think that teeth cleaning comes after eating, so you ‘trick’ your body into feeling full? Whatever, there’s no downside to this; you get cleaner teeth, and less snacking!

The Sweet Smell Of Success

Your sense of smell and your sense of taste are intrinsically linked. It’s possible to suppress hunger by smelling certain things.

“Our sense of smell and our appetite are closely related. More than 90 percent of taste is smell.”  ~ Dr. Allan Hirsch, author Dr. Hirsch’s Guide to Scentsational Weight Loss.

When you smell certain foods, odor molecules enter your body and trick your appetite into thinking you’ve eaten something, and therefore you are satiated.

According to Dr. Hirsch, you can even fool your brain into thinking you’ve eaten more than you actually have so you feel satisfied while eating less!

Liquid Lunch?

While I still prefer to, you know, eat at lunchtime, it’s good to have a few tricks up your sleeve to stop your hunger in its tracks if (A) it’s not actually lunchtime yet or (B) you’re trying to shed a few pounds by being strict about snacking.

Alkaline water is my go-to remedy for many things, but taking the edge off my appetite with a long, cool glass of ionized water is something I try to practice every day! To see which of our ionizers is best for you and your family, check out this link.
