FREEZER SHEETS AND SWAMP FANS! TIPS TO STAY COOL DURING A HEAT WAVE!

Here in South Jersey, we experienced our rainiest June ever!  However, our friends in other parts of the United States are experiencing multiple triple digit temperature days!  During these dog days of summer, it’s important to stay cool and hydrated.  Here are 6 tips to beat the heat!

1.  Dress simply.

Wearing loose-fitting, lightweight, light-colored clothes will keep you cool and reflect heat and sunlight. Don’t forget to keep your head cool. Wearing a wide-brimmed hat not only looks cool, but it can also keep you cool by providing shade. Did you know that light-colored clothes are also great for helping to keep creepy crawlies off of you too? It’s simply easier to see them on light clothing, so you can make sure you get them off right away.

2.  Cool your home.

Keep your house cool by drawing your window blinds and shades. Keep that sun out! During summer days, you should close draperies on windows receiving direct sunlight to prevent heat gain. Studies demonstrate that medium-colored draperies with white plastic backings can reduce heat gains by 33%. Keep the air conditioning on. If you don’t have air conditioning, use a fan. Have one fan blowing out a window to remove hot air. You can also make your own “swamp cooler” by placing a bowl of chilled water in front of a fan and letting the air blow over it.

3.  Cool your pressure points.

Applying a cold compress to your pressure points is crucial to keeping your body cool when it’s hot outside. You can also keep a cold, wet towel around your neck if you have to work outdoors. Try dipping your feet and wrists in cold water for about 30 seconds to cool off your body.

4.  Make a cooling face mist.

Brew some green tea using alkaline level 3 Tyent Water. Pour your tea in a squirt bottle, and put it in the fridge. Periodically throughout the day, squirt your face and body with the tea. Not only will the cold tea cool you off, but it’s also good for your skin because it is packed with antioxidants from the Tyent Water and the green tea.

5.  Freeze your sheets!

Most of us have trouble falling asleep if we’re too hot. Here’s a good tip: fold up your sheets and pillowcase, put them in a freezer bag and stick them in the freezer in the morning. Remove them from the freezer before you head to sleep and put them on your bed. You’ll have the coolest bed in the neighborhood!

6.  WATER, WATER, WATER!

This tip is probably the most obvious! Water is the single most important way to stay cool in these sweltering temperatures. Make sure you have plenty of Tyent Water on hand wherever you go. Fill up your GoodLife bottles with Tyent Water and put them in the refrigerator to chill the water. The dual-walled stainless steel bottle will keep your water cold for hours and maintain the properties of your ionized alkaline water. We like to have several on hand! Also, its smaller molecular size means that by drinking Tyent Water, you will stay much more hydrated than if you drink regular water!
