5 Ways Water Affects Your Brain

The human body is made of water. It accounts for around two-thirds of our overall physiology. Every single cell needs it. Here’s another amazing fact: the human brain is around 75 – 78% water. So how does water affect your brain?

5 Ways Water Affects the Brain

1. Nutrients and Oxygen

Your brain needs a constant supply of oxygen and nutrient-rich blood flow in order for it to function. Water is vital for the purpose of delivering essential elements and nutrients to your brain.

2. Dehydration and Cognitive Function

To put it plainly: when we don’t drink enough water, we cannot think clearly. Dehydration is bad news for your health. Among other things, it affects your skin, energy levels – and the brain.

When it’s dehydrated, your brain actually shrinks, and cerebral circulation is affected, which alters cognitive skills and memory function.

3. Mood and Emotions

Your brain governs your mood and how you feel. If you’re even slightly dehydrated, it’s enough to unsettle your mood – even if you don’t realize that you’re thirsty. It’s worth remembering that thirst doesn’t always come first.

If you’re feeling irritable, grab a glass of hydrogen water – the fastest way to hydrate.

4. Dehydration? Literally a Headache.

We mentioned that the brain shrinks when dehydration kicks in, and it’s not only your memory and mental acuity that are affected: it can cause crashing, debilitating headaches.

5. Sleeps Matters

Being hydrated means that you have healthy, oxygenated blood flow to the brain. This helps to induce a sense of calm, which aids a good night’s sleep. Also, during your sleeping hours, cerebrospinal fluid circulates your brain cells and helps to flush out toxins and debris.

    1. Hi, Arturo. Thanks for your question. Bottled water is quite often repackaged tap water, which means you usually pay unnecessary prices for distilled water that you already have in your home. Bottled water can cost anywhere between $1 to $5 for mid-range brands and even until $10 for high-end brands, while our water is 6¢ a glass.

Plus, even with BPA-Free bottled water, the chemicals found in the plastic can eventually leach into your water if it’s left to sit for long periods of time, especially under extreme heat. While your bottled water may start out clean, it won’t stay that way forever. Bacterial contamination due to drinking bottled water isn’t frequent but it has happened.

Lastly, the plastic packaging of bottled water isn’t good for the environment. According to the Medical News Today article, in 2016, the manufacturing process in the US alone used 4 billion pounds of plastic. Since the majority of bottled waters are not recycled, continuing to purchase multiple bottles a year just adds to the huge amounts of waste we already produce in the US alone.

On the other hand, Tyent’s hydrogen-rich alkaline water is filled with essential minerals and antioxidants (like molecular hydrogen, the smallest and most powerful antioxidant on the planet). Plus, since our water ionizers are connected to your tap water system at home, you don’t need to put our water in non-eco-friendly plastic bottles just to drink it.

  1. Signs of dehydration? I’d like to know because I’m usually not sure if I’m dehydrated or just fatigued.

    1. Hi, Emilio. You can check out this article to find out more about the signs and symptoms of dehydration and this article to know what type of dehydration you might have.

If your fatigue is constant even if you already drink good amounts of water daily, I would recommend contacting your general health practitioner for a full assessment. If they suggest drinking alkaline or hydrogen water, please give one of our water ionizer experts a call at 855-893-6887.

    1. Hi, Solange. Thanks for your question. Tyent’s hydrogen-rich alkaline water is better at hydrating your body because it’s full of molecular hydrogen, one of the most powerful antioxidants. This antioxidant is able to cross the blood/brain barrier and deliver unmatched energy and hydration from deep within your cells. Our water is full of other essential minerals, too.

Also, the higher pH level of our alkaline water promotes a healthy state of alkalinity in your body. This is essential for optimal health.
